Deighton Marshall
Principal Consultant and Managing Director, Deighton Marshall is a former President of the Barbados Employers Confederation, a Chartered Manager and a Certified Management Consultant with over 30 years in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations and Labour Legislation. He is a Chartered Member CIPD, a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, a Fellow of Institute of Consulting , holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Employment Law and Practice and a Diploma in Organisation Development of Employers’ Organisations. He has attended the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School Executive Education course – Harvard Mediation Intensive.
Prior to joining the Barbados Employers' Confederation, Mr. Marshall worked as a para-legal Officer in the Attorney General Chambers which included the offices of Chief Parliamentary Counsel, Solicitor General and Director of Public Prosecutions.
He currently serves as a member of the Employment Rights Tribunal of Barbados.
Mr. Marshall has a proven track record in Human Resources and Industrial Relations and Labour Legislation having worked for the Barbados Employers'Confederation for over 10 years as a Senior Industrial Relations Officer. His responsibilities included advising members on employment matters and he spearheaded its training programmes for Management and Supervisory Personnel for member companies as well as other Human Resources Projects.
He has a diverse background in negotiating CollectiveBargaining Ageements with Trade Unions having negotiated Collective Agreements on behalf of the Hotel Group, Garages, Construction, Beverage, Supermarkets, Manufacturing, Printers, Security, and individual members of the Barbados Employers' Confederation.
He was Head of Personnel and Support Services which comprised Human Resources, Transport, Public Relations and Property Management at Barbados Telephone company now FLOW. With years of experience as an HR Generalist and Employment Specialist, he has developed all aspects of the HR Department from the ground up and specializes in developing cost effective, best practice methods to build strong morale & ensure staff are well trained. His energy and passion lead to the effective development and communication of innovative, real world training techniques. He mentors employees who enroll in HR programs & want to advance their careers, or are entering the field of Human Resources
Mr Marshall was elected as President of the Barbados Employers' Confederation and served in that capacity from 1992-1995. He was a signatory to the first Prices and Incomes Protocol and the Employers' Delegate at the Annual International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conference in Geneva. He has presented papers as an Employers' Representative on Human Resource Management and Labour Management Relations at the Caribbean Employers' Confederation and Caribbean Congress of Labour where he addressed that body on “Structural Adjustment and Challenges for Unions and Employers”.
He represented Barbados at The Duke of Edinburgh Commonwealth Study Conference held in Canada and was the Barbados Lead of the Caribbean-Canada Emerging Leaders’ Dialogue 2011 which concluded in Barbados at the Hilton under the Patronage of Princess Royal HRH Princess Anne, President.
